Mahi – Operation

 

Te Rāhui is a new boat harbour due to open in 2024 that will provide safe berthage and marine services in Whakatāne’s dynamic coastal and river environment.

 

Te Rāhui will open to commercial berthage following completion of Stage 1, expected around mid 2024. Following that it is expected that space for recreational vessels is constructed, plus extra commercial space for marine businesses.

A new commercial marina

Te Rāhui will provide world class marine facilities in Whakatāne’s river. It will be built in two stages.

  • In the first stage, 60 berths will be created for commercial vessels such as fishing, aquaculture and commercial charter boats on the site at 2 Keepa Road.

  • Additional berths for recreational users will be created in Stage 2, along with a public boat ramp and further commercial premises.

  • The project includes provision of eco-safe services fuel, water, electricity and sewage pump out facilities.

  • Vessel hard stand and maintenance facility including a travelift of 80-100 tonne capacity - one of the biggest in the North Island.

  • Mobile Boat Hoist machine.

  • Cargo loading and unloading and car parking for 100 vehicles.

  • Service buildings and associated services.

Te Rāhui will incorporate an upgraded recreational boat ramp and parking facilities, and a continuation of the open space and walking areas that are already provided for along the river’s edges. A Marine Technical Training Centre will provide trained staff for Whakatāne’s existing and emerging marine businesses.
